SELAH CLARK CHOSEN AS TCAT-HARRIMAN OUTSTANDING STUDENT OF THE YEAR WINNER
Selah Clark, a cosmetology student at TCAT-Harriman, was named local winner of the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Outstanding Student of the Year program. The announcement was made by program coordinator, Angela Richardson.
The Tennessee Board of Regents, Office of Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology sponsors the Outstanding Student of the Year program statewide. The objective of the Outstanding Student of the Year program, according to Richardson, is to recognize and reward excellence among the more than 30,000 students studying at Tennessee Colleges of Applied.
"To be considered for the Outstanding Student of the Year title, a student must be nominated by his or her instructor," explained Richardson. "A selection committee of individuals from the community’s business, civic and industry leaders then interview and evaluate nominees to select the local winner.”
In addition to Clark, five other finalists were recognized for their outstanding achievement, character and leadership. They are Brian Barber of Clinton, Industrial Maintenance Technology; Karen Hickey of Rockwood, Medical Administrative Office Technology; Mikaela Marshall-Holmes of Harriman, Welding Technology; Tessa Neal-Patterson of Oliver Springs, Automotive Technology, and Derek Whittenburg of Jamestown, Diesel Powered Equipment Technology.
Selah is a 2015 graduate of Wartburg Central High School and currently resides in Rockwood. She will now move on to compete with representatives from other TCATs in the regional competition in January. At that time, nine regional finalists will the move on to compete for the state title and the grand prize - a new car.
